After a two-year hiatus, we are excited to bring back one of the most celebrated Bay Area festivals, the Outsound New Music Summit. It will take place over four nights July 29 - August 1, 2022, at the iconic Berkeley Finnish Hall. The Summit opens with Long Tone Sally, a mega trombone ensemble created by composer Rob Ewing, followed by the legendary ROVA Saxophone Quartet celebrating over 40 years of performance. Bay Area educator and instrument inventor Krys Bobrowski will join inimitable gong player Karen Stackpole for a special set of Bobrowski’s water-based Gliss Glass suite of music. Following the duet Ven Voisey brings Alexandra Buschman-Román, Danishta Rivero and David Lim to perform his original Scaffold, a compositional structure of audible cues and field recordings. Next up will be local bassist David Leikam and his psychedelic jazz quartet zBug, followed by David Michalak leading a memorial set of T.D. Skatchit & Co celebrating over 10 years of their playable skatchart band TD Skatchit of inventor Tom Nunn. Oakland based vocalist Aurora Josephson and ROVA saxophonist Bruce Ackley will join the skatchit chaos as special guests. The final night will be anchored by San Francisco underground art-rock bands Tri-Cornered Tent Show and Moira Scar. Unclassifiable since the 1970s, Tri-Cornered Tent Show’s latest sonic incarnation calls its sound “an avant-psych blues freak-out.” Moira Scar will close out the Summit presenting their signature art-punk dark-wave deathrock from Oakland California, founded by Roxy Monoxide and LuLu Gamma Ray (also known as Roxzan Zatan and Lu Lucifer), who are trans and non-binary queer femmes, non-conformist, anti-racist, anti-fascist, and always freaking.

Vaccination and booster shots highly recommended.
If you feel ill, please do not attend.
